The Homepage

The Library Homepage -The gateway to all that’s info.
The library web site has individual pages with information about library operations, services, contacts, and other information related to different areas of the library. It also has links to different tools you need for finding, downloading, and borrowing materials. and finally, it has feature items, new materials, events, and news, that highlight current happenings. It lets you use online tools the library has to support transactions in the physical building (books), and online, (database articles).

In many cases there is more than one way to get to a tool or service.  For example you can get to the inter-library loan tools by doing a book search, clicking on the I-Share Link in the search tool area for Books, or from the ILL link on the side bar. The key is that you realize these services exist, that you recognize you might encounter them by taking a number of paths. Eventually you will usually find a way to access them that works best for you.

You can break down the library home page into roughly these four areas. Look at the image and explanations, then explore each section on your own.

1. Side Bar Navigation

Use this side panel to find general information, links to service like course reserves, and inter-library loan , and web pages for special areas in the library like the government documents unit and the archives and special collections. If you click on the side link you will go to the main page for that section. Note: When you hover over a side link a menu comes out that will focus your search by selecting a sub-link, General links to library services and information.

2. Site search Engine
This is Search engine that looks through all the pages on the library web site. Use this if you are looking for information about the library and you can’t find it in the menus on the home page. It can really help if you are not quite sure what to look for, or where to look for it, like where classrooms are located, or who the librarians are and how to contact them.

3. The “Finding” Section
A large menu section to Find things that has search tools and links to all the materials (content) the library has access to or a record for. This is probably the most important section because it will take you into the library catalog, the journals and databases, and the articles in them. An extended overview of this area is covered in the searching from the library homepage instructions.

4. A highlight sections of featured items, news and events.

This sections lets you know what new materials have arrived, what events are happening in the library, and current library news.
