Introduction

Welcome to the Leslie F. Malpass Library. You are here to learn more about finding information related to the civil rights era in the United States. The primary objective of this session is to increase your knowledge of bibliographic resources on this topic. You will also learn how to use these resources and manage the information you retrieve from them. As a reference librarian, I have a lot of experience with many of these resources and will be happy to help you with them throughout the semester. I can also help you find additional sources.

 

Objectives

  • become familiar with standard information retrieval tools in US history
  • execute effective and efficient search strategies
  • retrieve the full-text of desired bilbiographic items
  • manage content with My Ebsco Host, MyJSTOR, RefWorks, Zotero, Delicious, etc.
 

Assignment

You will be required to write a research paper on a topic that you must choose in consultation with Dr. Key. Your paper should be approximately 4,000 words including footnotes.Final paper is due November 18, 2010.
