Finding Test and Survey Instruments @ WIU: Find Info about a Test

How to locate educational and psychological tests and surveys to use for your research project.

Find Information About a Test

Test Reviews Online If you have already identified a test of interest but need evaluative information about it, the best place to start is the Mental Measurements Yearbook. It is available on Level 2 of the Malpass Library (REF. Z5814.E9 T47) and has been published since 1938. Test Reviews Online indexes the set from the 9th edition to the present so you won't have to look at individual volume indexes unless the test predates 1985. Search for your test by title or acronym. Then go to the corresponding volume and page of MMY for evaluative and availability information. Alternatively, you can consult this alphabetical list of all tests reviewed in MMY from 1985 to the present. Buros offers a guide on How to Use the Mental Measurements Yearbook
Analyses in Other Books Other books containing analysis of instruments can be found under the following subject headings in our WestCat library catalog:
  • Educational tests and measurements
  • Psychological tests
  • Behavioral assessment
  • Intelligence tests
  • Achievement tests
Sometimes "--Handbooks, manuals, etc." is added to the end of the subject heading to make it more specific.
Analyses in Journal Articles The PsycInfo database contains evaluative journal articles. Try a search that combines the test's title as a "KW Keyword" and "reliability or validity or psychometrics" as "SU Subject." The ERIC education database also contains analytical articles. In ERIC, search the test's title as "KW Identifiers" combined with "reliability or validity or psychometrics" as "SU Descriptors."
