Curriculum and Instruction: Article Databases

This subject guide identifies and defines standard information retrieval tools and resources for a specific subject. Each guide was created to provide information about each subject, as well as assist with research related to this subject.

Education Specific

Below are some education-specific databases that are good starting places for your research.

ERIC

ERIC contains a mix of full-text articles, government reports, theses and dissertations. The library allows you to access ERIC through three different interfaces--EBSCO, FirstSearch and ERIC.ed.gov.

Educational Abstracts

Don't let the name fool you. Educational Abstracts contains a mix of abstracts and full-text articles from over 600 education journals. This database, as well as the rest in this list, come from the EBSCO vendor (see side panel).

Primary Search

This database contains full text articles from children's magazines and pamphlets. This may be a useful source for finding examples of materials that you could use in the classroom.

Professional Development Collection

PDC is another great source for full-text articles on educational topics, including reading across the disciplines.

Teacher Reference Center

Teacher Referencer Center also contains both abstracts and full-text articles on various education topics.

Multidisciplinary

In addition to article databases tailored specifically for education, you may find useful information in the library's interdisciplinary databases. Below are some examples.

Academic Search Complete

This EBSCO database covers a wide variety of topics, including education and child development.

Academic OneFile Select

Includes abstracts and full-text articles from over 2,000 periodicals in various disciplines.

LexisNexis Academic

Full-text access to major domestic and foreign newspapers, transcripts, legal periodicals, and other sources

JSTOR

This interdisciplinary database contains articles from over 130 education journals.
