A Popular Style Manual in the Humanities

Citing a Lecture

Chicago Manual of Style says you need to include:

  • author/speaker
  • title of lecture/speech
  • sponsorship
  • location
  • date of event

Footnote/Endnote Example  (indent first line only)

     1. Edward Woell, "The Public Sphere of Past and Present, and the Place of the Liberal Arts" (lecture, Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL, September 1, 2016).

Bibliography Example  (indent any lines after the first one)

Woell, Edward. "The Public Sphere of Past and Present, and the Place of the Liberal Arts." John Hallwas Liberal Arts Lecture delivered at Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL, September 2016.
