Professional Organizations serve several different roles in the sciences. They provide information to their members and researchers through their publications, both journals and books. They also help educate the public by raising public awareness of issues and informing the public of new advancements in their fields. Finally, they define and set standards for their fields, through adoption of codes of ethics and other work.
