Industry Definition Varies between sources, so pay attention! What is the "industry" under discussion?

  • American Hotel & Lodging Association - lots of current reports on various aspects
  • Hospitality Net - global news and opinion about the industry
  • Travel Industry Outlook - Deloitte publishes this and other related reports
  • Encyclopedia of American Industries - essays on each industry discuss trends and issues, structure, historical development, workforce, and global participation. It's dated, but good for overview and development. Hint: search for 7011 to find the industry fast.
  • Value Line Investment Survey - one-page industry snapshots provide data and analysis. Choose "Markets" in the top black bar, then "Industries" in the upper right to find Hotel & Gaming. (Can also search by company.)
  • MarketLine Company Profiles Authority - Go to Business Source Elite and choose the "Company Profiles" tab from the blue bar across the top of the screen. Profiles of individual companies include key facts, history, revenue analysis, SWOT analysis, and more. The SWOT analysis, in particular, can provide industry info.
  • North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) - the 6-digit standard used by federal agencies to classify business establishments. ABI/Inform, Business Source Elite, and LexisNexis allow you to search for articles about industries using NAICS codes.
