About Organizations

A number of different types of organizations provide information related to agriculture. Intergovernmental organizations, or IGOs, such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and World Bank, study agriculture issues that affect more than one country. Scholarly or professional organizations are groups of people interested in a particular discipline who work together to advance the profession. Advocacy organizations, such as the Farm Bureau, provide information on issues of interest to their membership and lobby for their point of view. Scholarly Organizations

Scholarly organizations exist to promote academic professions by holding regular meetings where research results are presented, and publishing or sponsoring journals in their discipline. The following organizations are important in agriculture:
