Illinois Adjudant General Reports

In 1899, the 41st General Assembly appropriated funds to revise, correct and reprint the Adjutant General's reports from the Civil War. It contains reports of the Adjutant General regarding the formation of Illinois regiments as well as information on the history of each Civil War regiment and unit from Illinois. The histories were written by various authors, some immediately after the war and some at a later date. The version published in 1900 had a ninth volume with information on the units that served during the War of 1812, Black Hawk, Mexican and Spanish-American Wars. The volumes dealing with the Civil War are listed below.

These histories are a summary of the activity of each regiment. Many books have been published describing the activities and experiences of many individual Illinois regiments and units. For more information on individual regiments, see:
