Academic Search Complete This database is one of our largest collections of articles (both scholarly and popular) and covers all kinds of topics. It's a good place to start when you have several concepts you want to find addressed in one article, because it's easy to do keyword searching and get results. However, you should pay attention to the "Subjects" listed under each result. Look for alternative or better search terms to make sure you are finding everything on the topic. ![]() |
WIU Libraries has many databases that allow searchers to limit their results to articles published within peer-reviewed journals, often simply by checking a box on the search page or choosing the peer reviewed filter after searching.
What does "peer-reviewed" mean?
Peer-reviewed journals (or "refereed" journals) are scholarly journals that publish articles that have passed through a review process:
other scholars in the author's field or specialty read the article and determine the merit of the manuscript
The review process helps ensure that the published articles reflect credible scholarship in their fields. The reputation of the journal depends on the publication of credible scholarship.
Limit what you find to articles that appear in peer reviewed publications! You can either do this as part of your search (see image below) or by using the limit above a list of results after you've done a search.
Either before you search or after you get a results list, EBSCO gives you the ability to limit your results to articles that appear in peer reviewed publications. See red arrow in image for limiter above a results list.
