Congress.gov is the official website for information about legislation and activities of the U.S. Congress. It provides access to legislative information for Members of Congress, legislative agencies, and the public. It is maintained by the Library of Congress (LOC) using information from the from the Office of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Office of the Secretary of the Senate, the Government Publishing Office, Congressional Budget Office, and the LOC's Congressional Research Service. Congress.gov contains:

  • Bills and proposed legislation (use the Advanced Search at the top for all Congresses back to 1974 (the 93rd Congress).  Users can limit their search to show only the bills that have passed both the House and Senate.  It can be searched by entering keywords or specific terms such as "food stamps," "Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program" or general terms, such as nutrition.
  • Session laws - bills that have passed.
  • Links to the U.S. Code, which is an ongoing compilation of existing law.
