Many U.S. and Illinois government agencies have issued publications related to Illinois History. Government publications available in the WIU Libraries can be found using WestCat. Current U.S. Government publications can be found using the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications. The WIU Libraries also provide access to digital collections of early government publications.
The U.S. Congressional Serial Set contains reports and publications that were issued by Congress, including reports that were written by government agencies and sent to Congress. The U.S. Congressional Serial Set contains over 1,200 publications dealing with Illinois. To find them, click on the "Geographic Names" tab and choose Illinois. Also browse for other topics that might be related (Northwest Territories; Indiana Territory, Illinois Territory, etc.). It is possible to find Illinois by clicking on the A to Z Index tab and browsing all subject headings.
The American State Papers have been digitized by the Library of Congress. They contain papers and reports of Congress from 1789 to 1838. The American State Papers and the Serial Set are available digitally using the links below.
Illinois State Government Publications - can be found using WestCat or I-Share. When requested, they can be sent to the library on the Macomb or Quad Cities campuses, or the closest academic library participating in I-Share.
WorldCat is one of the best resources that can be used to find government information. To search for government information in WorldCat, enter a search topic in one or two of the search boxes and then use the third search box to search the material type code for a specific type of government information. The material type can be specified by using the pull-down menu to the right to select Material Type. The codes to be entered for government information are:
