CQ Researcher: Using the Database

Get Started Searching

Searching, Sorting, and Saving

In CQ Researcher, the Quick Search box will bring up all items related to a topic. The Advanced Search allows for some flexibility in the search. You may look for words in different parts of the article, limit the search to a specific date range or sort the results by date or alphabetically, or pull only specific parts of an individual report., such as the pro / con parts, or the chronology.
You can also use the left tool bar on the main page to look at entire report listings or section of reports by topic.

  • Browse by Topic to view all main topics.
  • Browse by Date to see a chronological list of topics by year.
  • Pro/Con to view the Pro/Con list for all topics.
  • Issue Tracker to see current changes in a topic issue.

When you use any of these, a list of topic items will come up with the main topic at the top. Under this will be sub-topics.
Click on the sub-topic to get to the entire report or area of a report you chose. A Quick or Advanced search, or Browse by Topic sort will give you a list of entire reports. If you click on the Pro/Con or Issue Tracker sort links, the list will take you to that section of the topic's report.
