ANTH 110 (McIlvaine-Newsad): Locating Articles

When you are looking at search results in many databases**, notice the Find it! button. If you do not see a link to PDF Fulltext, Linked Fulltext, or HTML Fulltext, you may click on the Find it! button (or plain text link "Find It! @ WIU Libraries") to see whether or not we have access to an article through another database, publisher, or website.

Depending upon the interface you are searching, the Find It option may appear as either a grey button, a hyperlink, or both:

**NOTE: In the 2024 version of EBSCO's search interface, drop down the "Access Options" menu to see any possible access we have at WIU. The "Find It" function currently appears as "Other."

When you click on either the Find It button or text link--or on Access Options→Other in EBSCO--you'll be taken into WestCat. In order to see if we have available fulltext access, you'll need to Sign In to your I-Share account (ecom username and password).

In this case, we do NOT have immediate access to the article. Instead, you are given a link to login to ILLiad and then fill out an article request form. The citation information should be auto-filled for you. If you get an error message with the ILLiad logon, use this form instead.

Here is an example of an article for which we DO have immediate access. Simply click on an availability link to be taken to the fulltext.

Have problems when trying to get online access to journal content?  This complex system connects many different databases with many different journal providers. If you experience a problem with linking, scroll down the page in WestCat and click on Report a Problem under Additional Info. You can also use one of the contact options listed at http://www.wiu.edu/libraries/help/

Journal Titles Tab: Following Citations

Type in the title of the journal in which the article was published to see if we subscribe or have access:

• If your search found the journal title in WestCat:
  • Click on the title of the journal or the "Available Option" link under the title.
  • In the "View Online" section that appears, study the access options to see if we have a source that includes the volume and/or date of your article.
  • Click on the linked name of a source that covers your volume/year.
  • Once in the database or publisher's website, use the navigation tools of that site to find your year/volume/page*.
  • For older articles, we may not have online access. Use the location information in the "Library Shelf" section to find our printed journal, then copy/scan it.
• If your search did not find the journal title: use the Interlibrary Loan service to obtain a copy of the article.

*If you experienced problems linking through to online content from WestCat, click on the "Did a link fail? Report a problem..." option pictured below.
