Finding Journal Content Using WestCat: For a Known Article

Finding an Article from a Known Citation

Contact us at any point with your questions at https://www.wiu.edu/libraries/help

1. Go to "Journal Titles" tab of the library webpage, type the journal's title into the "Find a Specific Journal" box. If you have the exact title, enclose it in quotation marks. Then hit enter or click on Search. Note: at this point you do not search the title of the specific article, but the journal it appeared in.

2. When you get a results list, find the record or records for your journal*. Look for and click on the "Available Online" option. Keep in mind that if there is more than one record, you may need to look at more than one to find the resource that contains the year or volume you need.

3. Once you bring up the "View Online" information for a record, read the notes under the database/resource names to find one that covers the time period you need (red boxes). I’m looking for a 1993 article from Adult Education Quarterly, so only the Sage resources would provide it.

4. Click on the name of a specific database/resource that includes your volume/year. You should be taken into that resource and be able to get the full text, either by searching for your article's title or by navigating to the correct volume/year and issue.

*If you do not find your journal title using the Journal List search, that means we do NOT have immediate access to the article either in print or online In that case you will need to submit a request so that our Interlibrary Loan service can get a copy from a library that does have access. Login to ILLiad and then fill out the form for a Copy of a Journal Article or Book Chapter. To save time, if you found the citation online, you can copy and then paste the needed information into the form.
