Chemistry: Adding References (I-Share)

This guide contains links to resources for Western Illinois University students, faculty and staff looking for Chemistry information. It contains links to library and other resources related to all aspects of the Chemistry.

Adding References from Library Catalogs

EndNote can also be used to search for references in library catalogs, such as WestCat and I-Share. This section describes the process of searching library catalogs through EndNote.

1. Log into EndNote and click on Collect and select Online Search.

2. Select the Library Catalog to be searched. Searches can be done in any openly accessible online catalog. Users can also select a set of favorite catalogs to enable quick access.

3. Once a catalog has been selected, the search form appears. The search form is similar to the Advanced Search form in WestCat, I-Share and other online catalogs. Enter the terms of interest and use the pull-down menus to specify fields to be searched (this will limit search results).

4. Browse through the results and identify the titles to be added to your EndNote Library by clicking in the check box next to each title. Then use the pull-down menu to identify the EndNote Library or Group (see the next section on Organizing References) to which the citations should be added. Once the EndNote Library Group has been selected, the system will automatically add the selected titles to the appropriate Group.
