Chemistry: Setting Up a SciFinder Account

This guide contains links to resources for Western Illinois University students, faculty and staff looking for Chemistry information. It contains links to library and other resources related to all aspects of the Chemistry.

Setting Up a Scifinder Account

SciFinder is an index to chemistry information that was developed by the American Chemical Society. To search SciFinder users must register for an account.

1. Click on the link to SciFinder on the Library Guide or the Databases tab of the WIU Libraries Home Page. Then click on the words First Time Users: Register Here. The first screen states “Click Next to begin registration as a new user.” Click Next.

2. The License Agreement will be shown on the next page. Users are asked to agree that they are affiliated with WIU and will use SciFinder only for academic purposes and other terms. Click Accept to agree to the license agreement.

3. The next page asks for registration information: Name, E-Mail address (use your WIU e-mail address), Phone and Fax Number, and your area of interest. It then asks you to give a UserID, Password and answer a security question. After entering all information, click Register.

4. SciFinder will send you an E-Mail with information on completing the registration process.
