Indexes to Journal Articles & Other Publications

The WIU Libraries subscribe to a number of indexes that can be used to find information about Physics, including articles in scholarly journals, popular magazines, and newspapers, books, and government publications. Indexes available through the WIU Libraries can be found by clicking on the Databases tab on the Libraries' Web Site. All of the indexes listed below can be useful in locating information about Physics.

Science Citation Index (via Web of Science) This link opens in a new window
SCI is an interdisciplinary index to articles in over 3,500 journals from 2004 to the present. It can be used to search for information on who has cited an article. It can also be used to sign up for an account to EndNote, an online system that can be used to access, update and organize references for research.
SciFinder (Chemical Abstracts) This link opens in a new window
SciFinder is an index to publications in all areas of chemistry, including inorganic and analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, macromolecular chemistry, applied chemistry, physical chemistry and related areas. Information on searching SciFinder is available on the SciFinder Training Web Site.

arXiv
ArXiv is a collection of e-prints in physics, mathematics, computer science and other subject areas.
Google Scholar
Google Scholar can be used to search for articles in institutional repositories (which are available for free) and other sites (which may be free when accessed in the WIU Libraries).
NASA Astrophysics Data System
A digital library for researchers in Astronomy and Physics. It contains 3 bibliographic indexes to literature in Astronomy & Astrophysics, Physics and arXiv and includes full-text scans of articles, as well as pointers to data catalogs and other archives. It contains over 9.2 million records.
Optics Infobase
A repository containing materials from journals published by the Optical Society of America. It includes over 200,000 articles and papers from over 350 conferences related to optonics and photonics.
Science & Engineering Journal Abbreviations Search System
This site from the University of British Columbia can be used to find the title of a journal by searching its abbreviation.
SciTech Connect
An index to publications related to science, technology and engineering from the U.S. Department of Energy. It contains citations to datasets, multimedia resources, books, conference proceedings, journal articles, patents, technical reports and theses & dissertations, including some full-text resources.
WorldWide Science
This is a gateway to global science information developed by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Scientific & Technical Information that allows users to search national and international scientific databases and portals from around the World. It provides real-time searching and translation of the World's multilingual scientific literature.

Academic Search Complete This link opens in a new window
An index to articles in in over 8,000 popular and scholarly periodicals. Includes over 4,200 full-text journals. Full text can also be found using the Find It! button.

Ulrich's International Periodicals This link opens in a new window
Ulrich's is an index that lists over 300,000 periodicals and journals by title, and provides information on the publisher, indexing and subjects. It can be used to determine whether a journal is peer reviewed (refereed).
