Honors thesis guidelines

The purpose of this guide is to provide guidelines preparing and submitting your honors thesis. This document is intended to be used in conjunction with the guidelines provided by your academic department.

Signature Page

After the title page, you will need TWO identical signature pages, the first WITHOUT signatures and the second WITH signatures; both signature pages must have names of the faculty committee member(s) typed beneath the lines where they will sign. Follow the directions given to you by your department, but in general, the signature pages should include the following information, centered both horizontally and vertically (items in bold should be included verbatim, and asterisks should be replaced with the student’s information):

  • Title of thesis (centered)

  • By *** (centered)

  • This honors thesis was prepared under the direction of the candidate's honors thesis advisor, Dr. ***, Department of *** at Western Illinois University, and it has been approved by the members of the candidate's thesis committee. (centered)

  • Names of each thesis committee member and department chair along the right margin with a line for a signature above each, with the honors thesis advisor’s name first. Note: Depending on your department’s requirements, you may not have multiple people on your thesis committee, so just add the number of signature lines that you need in your situation.

  • Date (left)

Note: If you need help integrating the signed signature page into the pdf of your thesis, please see a librarian at the Reference Desk in Malpass Library (2nd floor).
