Geography: Countries, Regions & Issues

Country studies, which are prepared by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress, present descriptions and analyses of the history, society, economy, politics, national security systems and institutions of countries throughout the world. Some are also available in hard copy in Government Publications; they can be found by searching WestCat for the Country name in the Title and adding the words Country Study (keyword; all of these).

Bilateral Relations Fact Sheets (formerly known as Background Notes), which are prepared by the U.S. State Department, contain facts and summary statistics about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, and foreign relations of countries, some dependencies, and special sovereignty areas.

Provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and international issues for 266 countries of the World. It includes summary statistics on a wide variety of topics and copyright-free maps of each country. Remember to cite the source of the data & maps!

The Countries & Regions website from the Canadian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade & Development provides summary summary information about World countries. The site contains links to travel advice and advisories, basic country information, the name of Canada's representatives at the relevant Canadian government office abroad, the location of relevant trade offices, information for Canadians abroad requiring assistance, and information about Canada's international development assistance in that country.

The Economic Factsheets from the Foreign & Commonwealth office of the United Kingdom summarize key economic data for over 180 countries and territories.

Provide information on countries of the world including current hazards, safety & security, terrorism, local laws and customs, travel requirements, health, natural disasters and money of over 200 World countries.

The Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade provides information about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, and foreign relations of nearly 240 countries.
